Lastly, but maybe most importantly, we now have wireless access at Bookworks. Feel free to use our hotspot: the password is simply: “pleasebuyabook” (Heheh!) We’re not sure how we’re going to make money in the new economy, but then neither is anybody. : )

    Love that password! :)

We’ve offered free Wi-Fi for a little over a year now and it actually reaches a few other busineses and houses on the street. One day last fall a guy walked into the store handed Todd a $10 bill and said “I used your wi-fi to help me find a job last month while sitting at Dosie Dough (the coffe shop next door) and wanted to say thank you”

I know the economy is bad but as far as I am concerned books are the escape we need. As far as the small bookstores go, there is nothing like them! I grew up buying my books that way. There was no WiFi, online shopping, or bakeries right in the bookstore. It was a storefront with aisles of books. There is nothing like browsing those aisles for your next book! Don’t get me wrong, I am an author and the large online stores are great for mass exposure but still, only if you know the title of the book you are looking for or the author’s name. Not too good for the little author with her first suspense novel. In my opinion I would rather have all the Independents stock my book and expose it to the readers of the world than have it obscurely listed at the big online stores. At least then it would be appreciated for what the cover looks like, the synopsis, and the chance for a buyer to read a few pages. WiFi or not, I love the independent neighborhood bookstore. Thanks for reading.
